QLD: New case of equine morbillivirus in Cairns
Queensland's Primary Industries Department has identified another case of the fatal equine
morbillivirus in the state's far north.
The department says the virus has been identified as the cause of death of a mare near
Cairns last month.
Equine morbillivirus claimed the life of horse trainer VIC RAIL before it was discovered in
Brisbane in September, 1994.
Since then, another human and 15 horses have died from the disease and a monitoring process
has been established to stop its spread.
