NSW: Poll backs PM to keep keys to Lodge
SYDNEY, Aug 9 AAP - Prime Minister John Howard is set to keep the keys to the Lodge
in a nail-biting federal election, according to a poll of over 1,000 voters in the southern
NSW seat of Eden-Monaro.
For more than 30 years, the result in Eden-Monaro has been mirrored in the elected
government of the day.
Those polled by The Daily Telegraph predicted the Coalition would have been returned
by the narrowest of margins if an election was held last weekend.
The OmniTalk poll found that support for the Liberal Party stands at 46 per cent and
Labor at 40 per cent.
Support for the Greens stood at 8 per cent, with their preferences being crucial in
the deciding result, the report said.
Only one per cent of voters backed the Australian Democrats and just one of the 1,000
respondents picked Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party, the poll said.
