Oly: Police begin bomb checking at Olympic sites

Police and defence force personnel have begun security checks on all major Olympic
venues, hoping to close access to each site by the end of the month.

Public access to Olympic Park, Darling Harbour, the athletes village and all other
Games venues will involve stringent clearance checks from September 1.

Games security chief, Superintendent PAUL MCKINNON says there will be an escalated
police presence at key venues over the coming weeks.

He says security searches will involve members of the New South Wales Police Dog Squad,
the Operations Support Group, Bomb Management Centre, New South Wales Water Police and
members of the Australian Defence Forces Olympics task force.

Superintendent MCKINNON says as each venue is secured and locked down entry will be
limited to people holding the correct accreditation.
